This summer really has been the summer of Sean, the Detroit MC released his lp Finally Famous earlier in the year and this summer has seen him cement that. From guest appearances on some of the biggest songs of the year Big is really one to watch. Here are our top 5 Big Sean tracks of the year.
LAY IT ON ME KELLY ROWLAND FEAT BIG SEAN
Kelly Rowland’s Lay it On Me has been on heavy rotation at HDD HQ why? Kelly’s silky vocals combined with Big Sean’s flow from his opening Kelly Imma make you call me B.I.G. which rolls into his first 16 bars full of adlibs, there is a fun element to this tune. His second verse is where Big Sean kills it vocally for us, that line hitting high notes neighbours thought you joined the choir followed by his famous wobbledy wobbledy gets us everytime.
A$$ REMIX FEAT NIKI MINAJ
How could you not like a tune that samples MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This and is devoted to one of the most fabulous parts of the female figure. This is like an updated version of Sir Mix a Lot’s classic I Like Big Butts . This tune brings the fun club element back to hip hop.
MARVIN GAYE AND CHARDONNAY FEAT KANYE WEST AND ROSCOE DASH
A formidable combination of talent on this track, hook master Roscoe Dash (of No Hands fame) and G.O.O.D music head honcho Kanye West combine to this f*cking anthem. From the now immortal Hold Up x 15 to the cute sound bites, this track has it all.
SLIGHT WORK FEAT BIG SEAN
On Wale’s latest lp ambition (Lead single That Way we are fans of) Big Sean joins the DC native on this Diplo produced cut. The beat is refreshingly similar to the monster Look at Me Now (produced by Diplo and Afrojack) but with that classic hip hop break what’s not to love.
QUICKIE FEAT BIG SEAN
We love Miguel at HDD, his debut lp All I Want Is You is full of bangers, he is really one of the new breed of r and b singers that has reinvigorated the genre again. The fisticuffs produced Quickie invokes this Sting/Police era heavy guitar stabs with a lustral background like a chopped and screwed wet dream. So who else but the current king of Rap and Bullshit should hop on the remix.
