Very excited that Kaakie has dropped a video for this song because its’s just great. The video is spectacular as well, showing off what i assume is Ghana’s natural beauty. Those creeks are similar to the ones that my parents come from so it took this video a little bit further. Looking forward to hearing more from her in the future. I did an African dancehall mix on the Style and Swagger show last year that primarily focused on her.
Do you remember when you had to wait for MTV’s The Lick or Yo MTV Raps to see the best new videos? We do! Kazabon even had a VHS of the her favourite videos, from a time when Hype Williams was behind nearly every great video and when artists tried to out-do themselves and their peers with the hottest new video. We have decided to dig into the HDD video vault to bring you some of our favourites.
Today’s selection is Beenie Man’s Feel It Boy featuring Janet Jackson. The hit was written by Beenie and produced by The Neptunes and it charted pretty well after its release in the summer of 2002. The video shows Janet and Beenie having fun and interacting with different characters on a pretty packed beach. The video is shot so well you can almost feel the heat of the summer sun. Watch out for Bennie Man’s video girl, the girl balancing a stack of towels on her head, Beenie’s Jamaican ATV and Janet’s gravity-defying boobs.
So one of our favourite tunes last year is getting a proper European push in anticipation for the summer. I’m happy because i always thought this song deserved it’s fair shake. This video (which sneaked by us back in December) is directed by the incredible Motion Family (known for their Southern Hip Hop videos). The thing i really liked is the fact that even though the party element of the video only has about 20 people it looks infinitely much more fun than a high budget video does. You can grab the tune off itunes here.
The man of the moment is back with his latest visual for the anthemic Party Shot on the TJ records Smudge Riddim. The video which makes you want to party with Popcaan is full of great shots including an interesting way of shouting out the locked up Vybz Kartel and a rather impressive pair of Clarks. Even though it’s arctic we are going to party like Popcaan tonight at the Camp.
When i was growing up i absolutely adored massive posse cuts in Hip Hop. 15 people spitting on the same beat trying to out do each other, it was bliss. Luckily thanks to the democratisation of dancehall we get that all the time. This summers monster riddim Overproof has been a massive hit in the clubs and on radio, so a video medley should have been on the cards. Instead everyone did their own, so we have to deal with this super cut version. Sadly no Bedingfield.
