HDD Carnival Mix for Toddla T on BBC Radio 1

We have been Toddla T fans since he dropped his Ghettoblaster mixtape so being asked to do a mix for his pre Notting Hill Carnival show on BBC 1 and 1xtra was huge for us! It’s very hard to sum up Notting Hill Carnival in 30 minutes but we tried to cover all the different sounds that you hear when walking around carnival in this one. Listen back to the mix plus Hootie Who chatting to Toddla over on the BBC website.

HDD x Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 1

Last month Jamz Supernova sat in for Toddla T on his BBC Radio 1 show while he was in Jamaica.  Jamz asked us to do a dancehall mix in preparation for Toddla’s Jamaica Special so we juggled some of our favourite dancehall tunes of the moment. Listen or download above the radio rip also includes a short interview with Kazabon.

Notting Hill Carnival Soundsystems 2014

As you will see from our past posts we and our friends have given you advice on soundsystems since 2011. The advice from 2011, 2012 and 2013 is all still relevant and make sure to check out those posts as a lot of the soundsystems will still be there this year. Remember the soundsystems will be there on carnival Sunday and Monday but Sunday is children’s day so it’s a little bit quieter. If you are planning on going to carnival on Sunday Keshav from Jus Now will be doing a drumming workshop in Powis Square from 3pm.

This year we are seeing differnt star studded lineups on different soundsystems and on Carnival Monday. We will most likely be checking out Toddla T’s Soundsystem at the corner of Alderson Street and Kensal Road,

The Nigerian Corner on Adela Street (it’s the next street over from Toddla T’s soundsystem, plus we heard Patoranking, Phyno and Davido are in town so who knows they may pass through), The Digital Soundboy soundsystem is also one to check out on Tavistock Road.

For more soundsystem info and a map check out the Time Out guide here.

Toddla T Sound x Flash

Toddla T Sound are gearing up for another release, this time with HDD favourite Serocee on the vocals. The video follows the crew on tour over the last few months with clips from Lovebox, Tramlines, and the excellent Toddla T Sound System at Notting Hill Carnival.  Flash officially drops on October 7th but you can pre-order it from the Ninja Tune store here.

Kazabon & Hootie Who’s Top 5 x Notting Hill Carnival 2013

The past two years we asked some of our favourite djs, producers, artists and bloggers to recommend their favourite Notting Hill Carnival soundsystems, food stalls and anthems, and started to compile the HDD Guide to Notting Hill Carnival. Here are our (Kazabon & Hootie Who) recommendations for 2103

Toddla T at SSP Soundsystem

Toddla T has curated one hell of a line up for his takeover of SSP sound system on carnival Monday. Special guests Fuse Odg and Bunji Garlin were added this week and will be joining HDD favourites Serocee, Jus Now, Atumpan, Stylo G, Lady Stush and more between 12pm and 7pm Monday 26th at the corner of Alderson Street and Kensal Road.  More details here.

HDD World Carnival Party

If you have been following our World Carnival mix series you know how we like to party and this year we are throwing our second World Carnival party, this time at The Old Blue Last. This year we will be joined by Swing Ting’s Samrai and Palm City Social’s Moroka alongside HDD residents The Large and Illanja. More details here.

Pump it up by di trucks

Following the trucks is one way to make sure you hear all of your favourite soca hits at carnival. A lot of people tend to overlook this part of carnival which is a shame because you really should experience it. HDD favourites Trini Gladiata (who also has a birthday party at Birthdays on Sunday) and Schlachthofbronx will be on the floats all weekend. Try and catch the Abir float as it will be serving free drinks all day, Schlachthofbronx will be at the Urgent Union Float on Monday.

Nigerian Corner

Tucked away in the massive celebration of carribbean music is Nigerian Corner. Basically the biggest Nigerian street party in the UK. Wande Coal, JJC and D’banj have all performed before. It is only on the Monday at Adela Street.

 Carnival 2013 Anthems

Every year has it’s anthems and this year we think Whine and Kotch and Atenna will be running things. We also included our dark horse picks for Carnival Anthem 2013, Jus Now – Tun Up and Mavado – March Out.
