Another stone cold HDD classic. File alongside Sanko as Afropop jams that swing in all the right ways. Bayelsa in the building!
Clarence Peters could make your wedding look like it was the new Mad Max.
Sanko has been a staple in our sets since hearing it back in July last year and it still bumps! It’s a big tune and Timaya is certainly making sure there isnt a shortage of world carnival tunes, linking with artist from all of the scenes we love. He’s already had hits with Sean Paul and Machel Montano and now it’s the turn of Destra and Skinny Fabulous to give Sanko a taste of bacchanal. Thumbs up from us on these two, check out more from Timaya in our latest Africa is a Country chart.
Song of the Summer alert. Timaya rides this simple afropop meets 90’s dancehall vibe in proper singjay style. The xylophone touches are what make you keep coming back to this gem.
For a good 3 years we have been doing the World Carnival mix series, it quickly evolved into a mix that combines both of our heritages (Trini/Naija). So when this came across our computer screens we ran around with the same vigour that Beyonce fans did when Beyonce dropped in the middle of the night like a ninja! The really encouraging thing about it is that Machel is perfect on this, nailing it perfectly. The worst thing that could have happened was if he just paid lip service to this track. Or even worse asked for a couple of Nigerian reference points and stumbled his way through them.
