The Large x Gas Pedal Mix

So this came out a month ago and boy does it still bump. HDD fam The Large‘s mixes really stand the test of time. 6 months later they still get you in that spirit, 1 of her greatest talents is picking songs that stand the test of time. It’s easy to make a hot new dancehall mix and fill it with what runs the clubs at this moment but not stuff that will stay fresh down the line. That’s not to say that this mix rests on it’s dancehall laurels, it mimics The Large’s sets in incorporating sounds further afield. Afropop from Olamide and Gaffici, upfront club music from Dubbel Dutch, Spooky and some guy called Murlo. In fact many people missed out on the fact that he did the cover for her as well. Trust me this mix is pretty much what The Large does in the club, i fully expect you to fall in love with this and then make sure that you catch her next time she plays in New York.

Hipsters Don’t Dance x October

HDD OCT_440

Over the past few years in dancehall we have seen the evolution of certain stars. Cham may have dropped the baby a while ago but he is now a fully fledged star. QQ removed those child star constraints to become a slackness donRDX came back from the wilderness to teach us all how to Kotch. This month at HDD we continue the theme of evolution as HDD resident The Large prepares to jet off to NY.

The Large first played at HDD back in October 2010 and later became one of our residents, any of you that have been to our parties know that she always mashes up the dance! Like a lot of great talents, the bright lights of NYC came calling and she answered. This isn’t going to be her last time at HDD, as she will always be a member of the family but you don’t want to miss out on this set as it will be a special one.

Also on the night Murlo, Illanja, Kazabon and Hootie Who will be bringing you that HDD Carnival sound. Whine and Kotch, Bruk It Down, Azonto are all songs/dances that are not only encouraged but guaranteed. So come on down to the Shacklewell this Saturday and get lost in this carnival fun. To make things even more tropical The Shacklewell are offering two cocktails for £8 for HDD Happy Hour between 11pm and 1am. More details and directions on our Facebook event page.

Hipsters Don’t Dance x September

HDD SEP_440

Miss the sounds of the trucks? The bass of the sound systems? Feeling those post carnival blues? So are we, thankfully it’s always a fun and sweaty fete at HDD raves and it’s no different this month. Past September sessions have always been incredibly fun as everyone is in that carnival spirit. So come on down to the Shacklewell Arms to continue that glorious Notting Hill vibe.

On the night we will have Murlo, The Large , Illanja , Kazabon and Hootie Who. All of whom can make sure you perfect your Dutty Whine and launch into Palance that you couldn’t help yourself from doing at carnival. We kick things off at 9pm and as always you can save some cash early with £3 entry before 12am and £5 after. Bring your whistles and flags –  Notting Hill Carnival may be over but we party World Carnival style all year round. More info and directions on our Facebook Event Page.
