HDD at RBMA x Mangrove

This year RBMA are back at Notting Hill Carnival and are linking up with one of the best local mas bands Mangrove to bring one big bad truck to this year’s parade route. We are honoured to be part of this lineup alongside  Soca royalty Bunji Garlin, Fay-Ann Lyons and Olatunji, last year’s Thre3style champion DJ Puffy and some of London’s best selectors; The Heatwave and Jus Now. Serocee will be hosting with PAs from Mangrove artists Jo Money, Sunshine & Nadiva, Soca Jonny, Joni Rich and Survival #1.

Watch out for the truck on the parade route or if you want to play ah mas with Mangrove on the day get your t-shirts and costumes here.

Not sure where the soundsystems we have recommended over the last few years will be? The map below will help you find your way. Thanks to the London Notting Hill Carnival for this year’s carnival map, check out their website for more carnival info.

Unfortunately Notting Hill Carnival favourites Good Times, Rampage, Sancho Panza won’t be taking part this year but we highly recommend checking out Nasty Love, Glady Wax, Volcano, The Heatwave at Different Strokes on Sunday, and Nigerian Corner and Toddla T’s takeover of SSP Soundsystem on Monday. There are more than enough soundsystems to check out so go explore and if you want to hear the best soca follow the trucks for a bit!

Style & Swagger at Madd Raff Wednesday 12th October

This Wednesday The Heatwave are throwing their third Madd Raff party at The Social, and they have invited Style & Swagger along as their special guests. If you don’t know by now Style & Swagger is made up of HDD’s Kazabon, Physically Fit’s Why Delila and Shimmy Shimmy’s The Large (and they are all HDD residents too), you can listen to their latest NTS show here.

It’s a 90s party on Wednesday so Style & Swagger will be doing a 90s set on the night. Get your batty riders, baggy jeans, dungarees and string vests at the ready, it’s a 90s bashment party!

Shake It for the Horn of Africa

This wednesday we are honoured to be part of this event which is in order to raise money to Goal Uk. There are a ton of incredible dj’s on the line up including Serocee, Tomb Crew, Marco del Horno, Warrior One. Yes King, Kenny Pilgrim, Last Japan, Gaz Ultra, Trevor Daniels, Morcee and its hosted by Rubi Dan. So effectively it’s the cream of the crop of UK bass music all in 1 venue all for charity. The suggested donation is £5 which is a bargain and word on the street is that there will be much more, so please don’t miss out on this unforgettable night.
You can add yourself to the facebook event page here.
Also here is the main aim of Goal Uk:

GOAL has been supporting humanitarian and development initiatives in Kenya since 1992. The current GOAL Kenya programme has offices in two locations: Nairobi and Nakuru. The Nairobi programme comprises interrelated projects that target children and youth in difficult circumstances in the Nairobi slums. Its overall objective is to empower vulnerable children and youth in difficult circumstances, and help them access their rights and fulfill their potential.

The Heatwave present Showtime

The Heatwave really pulled out all the stops on this one. A live bashment showcase with some of the biggest names around regardless of genre. With a list like this you tend to have a look and see how is going to be a weak link (not maliciously, but you just do, its human nature) and i say with no sense of hype that there are no Mc’s on that list who aren’t worth their place on that stage.

Come on when are you going to be able to see Wiley share the same stage as YT, Asher Senator and Glamma Kid? It’s not going to happen unless something big was going to pull them together on the same stage. You could probably make a film about how the Heatwave got them all together (a more uk version of that Dave Chappelle/ Michel Gondry flick).

All of those artist coming on stage and spitting over classic dancehall and bashment, even for the non dancehall fan that has to be enticing. If you dont believe me why don’t you check out Serocee and Rubi spitting over those sort of records on last week’s Heatwave show?

The potential combinations of songs is also enticing, Smiley Culture tribute by YT and Asher Sentor, Glamma KId and Lady Chann doing Informer, Lady Chann and Serocee doing their verses of Bad Like Jimmy Cliff VIP… it’s going to be crazy.

And all for the price of £12/£15, which is less than the price of entry to a central london club, less than half a ticket for a Wiz Khalifa or Wu Tang concert, less than the price of some future beardy convention music night thing. Basically it’s a great price for such a unique event. I do hope that you guys go because maybe if it’s sucessful it could be the start of something great. Maybe it would morph into a uk version of Rock the Bells.
