Darq E Freaker x Blueberry (Feat. Danny Brown)

I’ve been waiting for this collab for ages, i even got the two of them to start chatting about it on twitter. That’s not to say i take any credit for this song, this is a song that show that the hustle ethic in hip hop is not something that just relates to rappers. This is a song that Davey Boy Smith of the Southern Hospitality fam threw together. We are big admirers of what those guys do in hip hop especially since it’s not just paying lip service to their favourite artists. They are there helping artists grow along the way. Congrats to all of them.

The song itself is a banger. A classic Darq E Freaker instrumental (this time more demented carnival) with the added urgency of some trap snares. That combined with Danny Brown spazzing the fuck out what more could you ask for. You can buy the release here. Make sure you check out the crazy remixes as well. You can check out the “Enter the Blow” video here.

Zane Cunningham Photography Exhibition Launch

We first met Zane at Southern Hospitality’s Players Ball, and have been fans of him and his flawless photography ever since (Zane took some amazing snaps for us at Dancehall Jamboree and also shot the new HDD tees). In celebration of Zane’s work The Social will be launching an exhibition of his photographs from Players Ball and Hip Hop Karaoke tonight on the ground floor, with music from Southern Hospitality residents Rob Pursey and Davey Boy Smith. The event starts at 6.30pm and is not to be missed! Club photography never looked so good, Zane’s artistic eye combined with the ability to capture that natural shot without his subject suspecting there is a camera nearby, has achieved amazing results.

Hootie Who @ HHK

So the lovely guys at HHK introduced me to Droop- E’s I’m Loaded and it’s become one of my favourite songs. The Sade sample, the bridges, the time and place that the lyrics evoke, E-40’s extra double time patter. So i had to do it at Hip Hop Kareoke. If you have never been i really do suggest that you go. It’s weekly, every Thursday at the Social on Little Portland Street. You will have a hard time trying to find a nicer crowd and atmosphere for anything else in the capital. The place is filled with music lovers who will often help performers sing their way through even the most difficult of tracks.

Weekend Mixes

With the British weather deciding to become tropical (not just the sun), there is nothing better than sitting in the park, having a bbq or just chilling out. However what do you choose to soundtrack these afternoons or evening enjoying the rays? Here are a selection of mixes that come HDD recommended.

Joe Grime Hot Wuk Mix
Deja Vu Fm’s Joe Grime made a promo mix for the next Hot Wuk (Royal Wedding Special next thursday), as Joe said its a mix of his favourite riddims old and new.

Heatwave Energy Bashment Mix
Speaking of Hot Wuk, Heatwave released a mix this week and its chocca full of party tracks including the Vybz/ Show me love mash, refix of Trick Me and my highlight of Mr Lexx on the Punany Riddim.
You can download it here.

Rob Pursey Zonin 2
The return to Rob’s classic Zonin mix which can only be described as a diverse look into a vibe that we all have. This edition features tracks from Twista, Adele, The Dream and Clams Casino. You can grab it at the Southern Hospitality blog.

Jazzy Jeff and Mick Boogie Summertime Mix
Two absolute legends in the game, take the summer mix to another level with this quick fire 50 track mix. Sadly it doesnt come in a large mp3 which is annoying to no end. Yanks might have the one up on us snce they have better weather than us but this mix doesn’d dissapoint. You can get it over at UNDRCRWN.

How to be a fan in 2011

A study came out this week saying that the average American spends 3 times less money on music than in in 2001. As alarming as that is most of us know that figure is going to get worse. As well as actually buying the music…..one of the best ways to support the music you love is to buy the merch. Especially of up and comers, even more so for producers.

So here is a bunch of stuff that you can get from people that we really like.

1)The guys who made one of my fave EP’s of the year Tomb Crew have a Tee shirt.
2) Southern Hospitality sell tees at their events.
3) Shimmy Shimmy have some amazing tee shirts. New range
coming soon as well.
4) Toddla T has a great keith harring inspired tee…. sold out at the mo though.
5) Wiz Kahlifa has a terrible towel… it comes in black and…..yellow.
6) Major Lazer tee…. now only $12
7) Rinse Fm tee shirt … those transistors are expensive.
8 ) Detboi got some Voodoo Drums tee shirts here.
9) Why not grab the Duck Sauce combo pack
10) The last one but easily the best why not buy a schlachthofbronx air horn…. pricey but well worth it.

Of course you can always grab a HDD tee at our store. Details of that later on.
