As we get ready to celebrate four years of Hipsters Don’t Dance on December 7th with Poirier and Serocee, we have selected four of our favourite tunes from Poirier (look out for our top 4 x Serocee tunes next week). Choosing four tunes was a pretty tough task as Poirier has an amazing back catalougue of productions, remixes and refixes. Ever since he dropped palance during his set at Red Bull x Major Lazer Notting Hill Carnival party back in 2010 we knew we had to have him dj at one of our parties! If you are not familiar with his work these selections will give you a taste of what’s in store at our birthday bash on December 7th.
Blazin is on the same album (No Ground Under) as another favourite of ours Go Ballistic from back in 2007, it was probably around this time that we fell in love with Poirier’s productions. Blazin features Face T on vocals and the pair always work well as a team.
Poirier gives us an African drum laden version of Press Up with this remix which we feel falls in the same category as Aidonia’s Tip Pon Yuh Toe and Spice’s Hot Patty Wine. It is part of the Booty Based Mob compilation which you can get here by naming your price!
Its no secret that we love soca here at HDD HQ and last year Poirier’s Soca Road EP provided us with some fresh power soca with an international vibe. Bring It On is our favourite track on the EP and features Cape Town’s EJ Von Lyrik riding Poirier’s signature soca sound like a pro! Kazabon chose this tune as one of her honorable mentions for top tunes of 2012.
We all know Erup’s big hit but who know’s about the remix ep that came out with remixes of the tune by Poirier, Grahmzilla, Nick Catchdubs and Lunice?! Poirier’s remix is our favourite and still sounds fresh today.

For our November session at The Shacklewell Arms we are going to do something special and that’s celebrate World Carnival! The critically acclaimed mix series which incorporates the best of Dancehall, Soca, Afro pop and more is something that we are truly proud of. It’s been described as a transatlantic carnival which surely must be the best kind!
We (Kazabon & Hootie Who) take centre stage this month with an extended set celebrating the World Carnival Sound. We worked hard selecting each and every tune across the five mixes in the series and discovered and championed anthems such as The Thing, Bruk It Down, Bumaye, Whine & Kotch, Differentology and more before they bubbled over to the mainstream. We have also invited one of our fave up and coming djs Thom White to join us on the night.
As always The Bogle, Dutty Whine and Row Di Boat are not only encouraged but guaranteed so get ready to buss a wine with us on Saturday. More info on the Facebook Event Page.
What’s that coming over the hill? SOCA SEASON! Moses kicks it all off with his groovy gallis anthem.

Over the past few years in dancehall we have seen the evolution of certain stars. Cham may have dropped the baby a while ago but he is now a fully fledged star. QQ removed those child star constraints to become a slackness don. RDX came back from the wilderness to teach us all how to Kotch. This month at HDD we continue the theme of evolution as HDD resident The Large prepares to jet off to NY.
The Large first played at HDD back in October 2010 and later became one of our residents, any of you that have been to our parties know that she always mashes up the dance! Like a lot of great talents, the bright lights of NYC came calling and she answered. This isn’t going to be her last time at HDD, as she will always be a member of the family but you don’t want to miss out on this set as it will be a special one.
Also on the night Murlo, Illanja, Kazabon and Hootie Who will be bringing you that HDD Carnival sound. Whine and Kotch, Bruk It Down, Azonto are all songs/dances that are not only encouraged but guaranteed. So come on down to the Shacklewell this Saturday and get lost in this carnival fun. To make things even more tropical The Shacklewell are offering two cocktails for £8 for HDD Happy Hour between 11pm and 1am. More details and directions on our Facebook event page.
