As 2012 comes into its last few days we decided to repeat last year’s near- impossible task of picking our top 20 tunes of the year. Based on the tunes we have been playing out and the tunes we have been listening to at HDD Headquarters, in no particular order, here are our top hip hop, dancehall and tropical tunes of 2012.
Picking just 20 tunes that summed up the year in music for us was extremely difficult so here are the tunes that came close but did not quite make the top 20.
The wonderful Akwaaba website have released a remix package for the R2Bees banger Agyeiii. It features remixes from the likes of Captain Planet, HVK and One Man Army. The song also features our favourite rapper in any genre this year Sarkodie. You can grab the set over at their website. Make sure you check out what else they have going on.
7 months after our first World Carnival mix we are back with the sequel. This mix spans not only our musical influences but represents the sound of our heritage. The music that this generation of diasporas (Trinidad and Nigeria in particular) are making. So we have music from countries as diverse as Ghana, Trinidad, UK, France, Nigeria, Portugal and Germany amongst others. For us combing genres such as Soca, Azonto, House and Tropical Bass is natural and something that we have nurtured through our club night. We wanted to replicate the sounds we know are orignating from carnivals in Port of Spain, Calabar and London. We hope that you enjoy this mix, this is what we believe is our World Carnival.
