Strictly Riddims No 15 Mixed by Joey B

strictly riddims 15_hires

Our Strictly Riddims mix series focuses on instrumentals. With this series we hope to increase appreciation for dancehall riddims and instrumentals as we feel that in dancehall the productions and producers don’t often get the props they deserve.

We return back to the mix’s dancehall roots with Manchester based Joey B. As part of both the Hot Milk and Swing Ting crews he is quite familiar around these parts (he is a badman dj). Here is what Joey had to say about his mix.

In terms of how I put the mix together, its a one take mix, where I just drew for some of my favourite Bashment riddims from over the years, new and old, in no particular order. Most of these are played from Jamaican release 45s, with some CD juggling too. I wanted to give some shine to the riddims that have stood the test of time for me, and also to the new ones that I’m feeling right now. Was well good fun doing the mix, and great to bring the producers and labels to the fore.

Strictly Riddims NO 12 Mixed By Knomad

strictly riddims4
Inspired by dancehall riddims and the recent work of two of our favourite producers Murlo (Quartz EP) and Dubbel Dutch (Self Help Riddim), we have decided to launch the HDD Strictly Riddims mix series focusing on our favourite instrumentals. With this series we hope to increase appreciation for dancehall riddims and instrumentals as we feel that in dancehall the productions and producers don’t often get the props they deserve. The 12th mix in the series is by New York’s Knomad, the Dj, curator and radio host who calls himself ‘the bearded riddim purveyor’ recorded a mix that is an ‘exploration of the grey areas between versions, hip hop instrumentals, and bass music’.Make sure you check out his radio show on RWD Fm. We should also mention that he recorded this mix live in one take using serato & 1200s, pioneer mixer, outboard fx & his own custom made 4 bit dub siren.

Strictly Riddims No 10 Mixed by So Shifty

strictly riddims10

Inspired by dancehall riddims and the recent work of two of our favourite producers Murlo (Quartz EP) and Dubbel Dutch (Self Help Riddim), we have decided to launch the HDD Strictly Riddims mix series focusing on our favourite instrumentals. With this series we hope to increase appreciation for dancehall riddims and instrumentals as we feel that in dancehall the productions and producers don’t often get the props they deserve. The tenth mix in the series is from German dancehall dons So Shifty.Their talents are so far reaching that it’s tough to narrow down what they do, if there is anything going on in the Europe that has to do with dancehall, soca or cumbia they are likely to be involved. For their mix they decided to switch things up a bit and focus on riddims from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. So we have 55 or so riddims expertly mixed into a wonderful 20 minute span.

With this series we hope to increase appreciation for dancehall riddims and instrumentals as we feel that in dancehall the productions and producers don’t often get the props they deserve. The ninth mix in the series is from UK DJ and Producer Unknown Soulja. As part of Commandments, one of London’s best loved nights at the Alibi, Unknown Soulja has always been true to his interests. Murlo x All Murlo Mixtape

All Murlo Mixtape

HDD resident Murlo is one of the hardest working people we know, when he’s not illustrating, djing or broadcasting on Chateau FM he’s creating unique and brilliant musical compositions that span all of the genres we love. His All Murlo Mixtape was premiered on Large Up’s Mixtape Mondays and it is a 40 minute journey into the world of Murlo riddims – believe us this is only the tip of the iceberg, Murlo has riddims for days! Enjoy!

If you are a Murlo fan you should also check out his latest visual offering for one of his most recent productions Last Dance.
