Here it is, we have been keeping the brilliant mix from Jillionaire until closer to that magic date of the 26th of November. You can check it out below but please be warned it’s a lovely mix featuring some of the best Soca and Dancehall around.
If you don’t know who he is here is the blurb from the press release:
Mad Decent’s Jillionaire has been travelling across the world with his unique sound, which combines Caribbean dancehall and soca. Stealing the show at 2009’s RBMA Major Lazer carnival party, his memorable set brought the spirit of Trinidad carnival to London. Since then he’s toured with Diplo, Switch and Skerrit Boy tearing up clubs all around Europe. He is currently preparing to launch his new label “Feel Up Records” this year and we can’t wait to having his fun carnival vibes at the Big Chill House.
If you haven’t heard about the massive dance that we are promoting with Physically Fit, where have you been hiding? November 26th is all about Dancehall Jamboree, a celebration of all things dancehall at The Big Chill House in Kings Cross. Here’s our promo mix featuring some of the djs and mcs who will be joining us on the 26th, give it a listen and get ready to make some noise!

HDD residents Why Delia and The Large are joining forces under their Physically Fit and Shimmy Shimmy guises to bring you an afternoon of dancehall at the Big Chill House roof terrace in Kings Cross. Headlining the event is the legendary Saxon Studio whose members include such greats as Maxi Priest, Tippa Irie and Papa Levi. Check out Papa Levi and Daddy Sandy performing at Notting Hill Carnival in 2009 for a taste of what’s in store.
Also on the bill is MC Mr Williamz who will be joined by past HDD guest Joe Grime on the ones and twos, Wrongtom, Cool Hand Luke and Felix Hall, and of course Style & Swagger. If this line up isnt enough to get your taste buds going, there will also be a BBQ on the roof terrace. For more info visit the facebook event page.
Why Delila and The Large have put this selection together in preparation for the event, their mix features some of the biggest tunes from the artists on the bill. Enjoy!
This Sunday HDD residents (and two thirds of Style & Swagger), The Large and Why Delila are bringing a taste of Shimmy Shimmy and Physically Fit to Oxford. They will be spinning some bashy tunes upstairs at the Port Mahon for Sensible Dancehall’s night Lord ‘av Mercy.
Afterwards they will be hot-footing it back to London for Style & Swagger’s second show on NTS at 1am. (If you missed the last show, check out the podcast which features new riddims Contra, Matrimony and Mad Referee).
This month sees HDD welcome three new resident DJs to the team. For the past 6 months Booty Beast, Kazabon and Hootie Who have been holding it down playing the best in hip hop, dancehall and tropical and turning The Camp into a sweatbox. We decided to add 3 DJ’s who have played for us before and absolutely destroyed their sets.
First up is The Large. At the forefront of the dancehall scene in London, The Large runs the excellent Shimmy Shimmy website which is a must bookmark for anyone interested in dancehall and soca culture. Her excellent fanzine No Ice Cream Sound can be bought all over the world (New York, Japan and even Rough Trade stock it) and her Shabba inspired tee shirts have sold out (the new collection should be out soon.). On top of all that she is an excellent DJ who plays the freshest sounds coming out of the islands. You can also hear her on Reel Rebels Radio as part of Style and Swagger Crew.
Next up is Illanja founder of one of Dublin’s biggest nights A$$quake, and a DJ who has played at some of Ireland’s biggest festivals. The night was a mixture of bmore, ghettotech, fidget, funky and all manner of songs that make you want to dance. He has now migrated to England and immediately secured a residency in Canterbury. Professor Illanja (he really is one) can play anything from rocksteady to funky to broken beat, as a veteran dj he knows how to work the crowd.
We also welcome another member to our resident DJ team in Physically Fit’s Why Delila. As well as running Physically Fit she has also interviewed Mr Lexx for the Heatwave blog and No Ice Cream Sound as well as running her own blog. She plays a great mix of bashment tunes which will make you bend your knees and start to Whine or Willie Bounce or Beyonce Whine or whatever else takes your fancy.
