Happy Pancake Day people! We love food just as much as music at HDD HQ and although pancake mix saves time, making your own pancake batter is a hell of a lot tastier! Here’s our step by step guide to making some delicious pancakes, all you need is a hot frying pan and some simple ingredients:
Pancake Batter
100g Plain Flour
1 Large Egg
300ml of skimmed milk
pinch of salt
Makes 8-12 pancakes
Step 1: Put the flour, egg and milk in a bowl and whisk until smooth (you can also use a food processor/blender)
cover the mixture and leave in the fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2: Heat some oil or butter in a frying pan and get the pan really hot, then turn down to a medium heat and test a small amount of batter in the pan – the first pancake is always a test pancake to see how much batter you need for each one.
Step 3: Once the batter hits the hot pan, tip it around from side to side to get the base evenly coated with batter. It should take only half a minute or so to cook; you can lift the edges of the pancake with a pan slice to see if it’s tinged gold as it should be.
Step 4: Flip the pancake over with a pan slice, the other side will only need a few seconds to cook, then simply slide your pancake out of the pan onto a plate.
Step 5: Add your topping; you can’t beat the traditional lemon and sugar, but maple syrup (we recommend Aunt Jemima’s), chocolate buttons, smarties, strawberries and cream, banana and nutella, and brown sugar and cinnamon are good alternatives
