As 2013 comes to a close, it’s time for our Top 20 tunes of the year. This year more than others we feel that there is a growing scene with various radio shows, labels and DJ’s playing more and more of the music we love. There has been a lot more attention payed towards Africa, Soca finally getting more shine and Dancehall moving more and more into the mainstream. There may have not been a big crossover song but instead there has been many a song which has caught the imagination of the public. We have certainly seen a shift in our raves where people are demanding we play stuff that a few years ago they would have looked a bit lost at. Let’s hope that this momentum continues with more and more exposure to the World Carnival sound. This list has been based on the tunes that we have been playing out at our numerous raves, listening to at HDD Headquarters and generally being the best ones out this year.
We did a post a little while ago on Cham’s cut on Boom Riddim produced by MadHouse Records but this time it’s his wife O’s time to shine. The video for Money Pull Up came out over the weekend and its visual lives up to its vocal. You can’t go wrong with a party video and this one features O rocking her unique take on dancehall style, a Patra look-a-like, a daggering puppet and some serious wines.
Brand new Cham on Madhouse Records which is probably the best combo in music right now (maybe Ciara and Future is the 2nd). Cham goes in on this beat which features ringtones and nextel chirps but it’s really him that makes it.
Meanwhile his wife O gets on the same riddim and talks up her prowess. It’s great to hear O back on a track as she is a fresh new voice. Big fans of her over here at HDD HQ. You can check out her cut here.
The song which jumped out as a hit from when we first heard it now has a video. Cham is mainly seen relaxing by the pool whilst O entices us with her chorus in various spots in Miami. Things we would like you to look out for in this video, the couple staring at O on the bus, the side eye that O gives the other girl in the bar area and this BBM convo.
