Bacchanalist Kerwin Du Bois is definitely leading in the soca stakes this soca season for us with his latest groovey soca offerings. Press a Button on Coconut Shell Riddim has similar elements to his huge hit Bacchanalist with Kerwin embracing the motto fete hard or go home.
Doh Beg was written and produced by Kerwin and we just love how his Trini accent flows over the riddim on this one.
Last year’s Bacchanalist and Mr Fete profess their love of soca with a little help from South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Machel and Kerwin took a trip to South Africa to shoot the video and it looks like they enjoyed every minute of it – watch out for Machel’s bungee jump! Like soca, this tune has the power to posses.
As 2012 comes into its last few days we decided to repeat last year’s near- impossible task of picking our top 20 tunes of the year. Based on the tunes we have been playing out and the tunes we have been listening to at HDD Headquarters, in no particular order, here are our top hip hop, dancehall and tropical tunes of 2012.
We posted Machel Montano’s Vibes Cyan Done a little while back which is on the same riddim (Antilles from Precision Productions) but we are predicting that Bacchanalist from Kerwin Du Bois will be the groovy soca anthem of 2012’s Trini Carnival. The new Wotless perhaps?! It certainly leaves you with that same warm uplifting feeling. The official definition of Bacchanal is an occasion of wild and drunken revelry ……. we would happily join Kerwin’s crew of Bacchanlists
