It’s soca season and in our favourite (soca) diss track of the year Mr Famous calls for people to play more local artists this carnival and return to playing soca greats like Mighty Sparrow, Mighty Shadow and Kitchener, instead of dancehall stars Kartel, Popcaan and Tommy Lee. We love soca and dancehall stars alike but Mr Famous’ Konshens, Rdx and Aidonia impressions in this track are pretty damn special!

Today marks the anniversary of the release of Vybz Kartel’s Kingston Story, so much has changed since then. The LP which is a seminal release in dancehall still holds up a year later, unlike a lot of riddims. The dynamic between the producer and the artist is unique and whilst a lot of people blathered about whether it was dancehall or not the fact remains it is a great LP. In the past year we have seen Kartel become a cover star of The Fader, gotten coverage in many mainstream media outlets and then got arrested. Ever since his absence, not just with his music but his antics as well, has been greatly missed.
This past week it was announced that Kingston Story is to be re-released on Mixpak in association with Vice on August 14th, you can pre-order it here. Rolling Stone got the premiere of one of the track on the deluxe lp called Money.
Since Aidonia has teamed up with Corey Todd he has released a bunch of tracks that haven’t really stuck. In a interview just after signing to the former Vybz Kartel manager he mentioned that he wanted to break out and become an international star. We feel that he hasn’t quite made it yet (we are massive fans of Aidonia though, we put Hundred Stab in our IDJ Raw Talent winning mix). However this video is top notch and instantly makes One More Gyal a lot more enjoyable. It’s interesting but a good video can really elevate a track and this one does.
Also his african leopard print jacket is incredible.
