Like the other mixes in our World Carnival series the fourth mix celebrates carnival sounds from around the world, with tunes hailing from the UK, Trinidad, Jamaica, Nigeria and South Africa. The result being a flow between genres in way that replicates what we felt is the perfect carnival experience. With Soca Season in full swing we have sprinkled in some of our favourites from this year’s carnival offerings and there are also refixes from us and our HDD residents Murlo and The Large too!

There’s no doubt that both DJ Zinc and A-Trak know how to make a club banger, and the re-work of their collaboration track Stingray is no exception. The Re-work Like The Dancefloor features dancehall artist Natalie Storm on the vocals. It’s been a minute since we have heard Natalie on a funky bashment track, and we are happy she is back on the scene. The video features the crew rolling around Notting Hill Carnival and boy does it make us nostalgic. We are predicting big things for this one – could it be the next Wile Out?!
7 months after our first World Carnival mix we are back with the sequel. This mix spans not only our musical influences but represents the sound of our heritage. The music that this generation of diasporas (Trinidad and Nigeria in particular) are making. So we have music from countries as diverse as Ghana, Trinidad, UK, France, Nigeria, Portugal and Germany amongst others. For us combing genres such as Soca, Azonto, House and Tropical Bass is natural and something that we have nurtured through our club night. We wanted to replicate the sounds we know are orignating from carnivals in Port of Spain, Calabar and London. We hope that you enjoy this mix, this is what we believe is our World Carnival.

Earlier this month HDD DJ’s Kazabon & Hootie Who were guests on the excellent fortnightly Pollinate and Steak House show on Hivemind Fm. The show has had the who’s who of Tropical music grace it’s decks and we were honoured to join them. We did a live hour and 20 min mix featuring what we are calling Winter Carnival faves. In other words sounds from Brazil, Ghana (Azonto), Nigeria (Naija Pop), Soca (Trinidad and other islands), Funky, Tropical, Funky Bashment, Garage and even some R and B classics. You can check out their facebook page for more and look out for the next edition of the World Carnival series.
