Two brand spanking new HDD blends from our new Riddim ‘N’ Blues series marrying dancehall and R’n’B. These two blends are over Genie Instrumental which is part of Douster’s Inna Style N Fashion Riddims release available from Mixpak. The original of Genie with vocal from JA artist Kari Jess, has become a staple at our parties but we thought it might be fun to add another track or two on the riddim for riddim juggling. The instrumental’s keys and structure are the perfect match for Total and Toni’s smooth RnB vocals. Stream or download the tracks below.

The unofficial video for 1 of the cuts taken from Douster’s new Ep on Mixpak.
You may know Douster from his popular King of Africa or his Dagga remix of Busy Signal’s Da Style Deh but like a lot of the producers we love, he has a love and appreciation for dancehall which is clear in his latest EP on Mixpak Inna Style n Fashion. Not only does the release have the best Artwork we have seen in a while it has everything you need for your summer soundtrack.
Wine is one of our favourites on the EP due to that demanding intro followed by Cee Gee willing you to ‘make love to the concrete‘ and Douster’s clever sampling – phone interference never sounded so good!
Like Gyptian’s Hold Yuh and Mavado’s Never Believe You, Wine Like a Genie has piano keys that make you fall in love with it. Dancehall tunes built on piano keys are winners in our book and Like A Genie can now be added to this category. You will be singing this one all summer.
Kantana reminds us a little of Gappy Ranks on Dollar Sign, his vocal over the rolling guitar riff and dancehall stabs make it dancefloor-ready and Keida adds the feminine touch to the EP on Never Lose. Listen to the EP below or buy it from Juno, iTunes or Boomkat
If you could assemble a team of producers to make a compilation inspired by dancehall riddims, this is the exact line up we would choose. For us this is the LP of the year, it fits our sweet spot so well. We don’t have to put the words forward thinking or any loose Kartel pun because this is us. Producers incorporating different sounds to create something familiar but brilliant as well. From HDD fam Murlo and So Shifty, to faves like Rizzla & blk.adonis, Poirier, Wildlife! TJ and Suku are great as well, they could have tossed off something that didn’t really fit but theirs are just as good. Cadenza is showing versatility that few UK producers can even match, and that is including the Veterans as well. An excellent job all round, a million forwards to everyone involved.

As the major summer festivals start announcing their line-ups we started thinking what would be your ideal festival stage. There has to be certain criteria involved:
1) There can only be 5 Acts or DJ’s.
2) You can have 3 MC’s manning the stage.
3) It has to be realistic (so choosing Daft Punk and Prince to play isn’t ideal)
So here is mine (Inie) selection.
