Back in May we joined Kiss My Teeth residents Can You Felix and Dizzietron at The Roundhouse in Camden for their first London event as part of Roundhouse Rising. We performed alongside AJ Holmes & The Hackney Empire and Fuse ODG – we even did the Azonto behind the decks as Fuse’s backing dancers/djs. The night was a lot of fun with great performances from all of the acts and a booty shaking contest with more booty than we bargained for!

Manchester’s finest DJ Darka and CanYouFelix will be joining us for our July Session this Saturday at Meter for a back to back set. We took 5 minutes of their time to ask them a few questions ahead of the event.
You are both residents at Manchester’s dancehall night Heads High, who do you think will have the biggest dancehall song this summer?
DJ Darka For me I’m a huge fan of Mr Vegas he kills it every time & Bruck It Down has to be the one right now. To get the real dancers bruckin out!
CanYouFelix Love Di Vibes – I-Octane is definitely gonna be huge this summer, I’m always on a singalong flex during this time of year
DJ Darka Can I choose Mr Vegas again? If ever I’m in a sticky situation playing uk funky, bass music or dancehall Mr Vegas Nike Air on the Playground Riddim just ignites every to put their hands in the air and switches the whole game up.
CanYouFelix I’ve been listening to grime for years but only started playing out in the last few months. Duppy – Skepta kills both Murkage and KMT always, without fail.
What is the tune you think is under-rated and you wish more people would appreciate?
DJ Darka David Lewis – Hands on Her (Sunship Remix) What a stone cold classic!
CanYouFelix It’s quite difficult to find the appropriate moment to play soukous, I love Fraudian Slip [Uproot Andy Remix] by AJ Holmes and The Hackney Empire so much, often people don’t really know what’s going on but if everyone’s a bit juiced then they go mad.
What can we expect from your HDD set and what are you looking forward to at HDD on Saturday?
DJ Darka I’m really feeling a lot of the new Murlo productions and I’ve been stepping into that Funky realm heavily recently. There’s a new Zed Bias Remix of Misha B’s Home Run it’s a madness can’t wait to see how that goes down, just like his track Dancing with Omar and Fox it’s really infectious and a party starter. Also with it being my debut in the London clubs im really excited to flex in the Big LDN and play some old skool ragga, slack dancehall and fresh uk funky vibes and a dash of UK garage all blended up like a melting pot can’t wait to see how it goes down.
CanYouFelix Energy! There’s nothing chin-strokey about our sets. I still haven’t made it to HDD yet which seems ridiculous, so really looking forward to this one!
We are honoured and extremely excited to be on the line up of the first event in the Roundhouse Rising presents series, Roundhouse Rising presents Kiss My Teeth. Following from the success of the sold out Roundhouse Rising festival earlier this year, the Roundhouse are giving young up and coming promoters and artists the opportunity to showcase different sounds through their monthly events.
The first one is curated by DJ and producer Dizzietron, who is also one of the founders of Manchester club night Kiss My Teeth which we had a blast djing at last November. Afro pop group Aj Holmes & The Hackney Empire, Kiss My Teeth founders Can You Felix and Dizzietron, and the man of the moment when it comes to Azonto Fuse ODG will be performing on the night with co founder of Manchester night BPM T Dot on hosting duties. As you can see Dizzietron has put together a serious line up for the event, here are a few words from her on what you can expect on the night.
From the favelas to the shanty towns, Lagos to London, Kingston to Calabar and Bogota to Baltimore are a selection of bands, musicians and DJs bringing you the best dance rhythms influenced by the African diaspora.
It’s been a big week or so for HDD resident Murlo, his first Ep Nectah was released on Pollinate (You can still support him). He went on the Wifey radio show on Deja Vu FM with juke god Chrissy Murderbot (he also gets in some speed meringue) on Thursday. Then came up to Manchester on Friday with us for Can You Felix‘s crazy KMT party at the Roadhouse (which no one knew was a Patrick Swazye film). He rounded the week off by playing at our 2nd birthday and sending the crowd in a frenzy. What would this week be without some recorded evidence, So above is a video of him playing his Bax Down refix (Mosca’s all conquering Bax and Walter Ego’s Calm Down) in Manchester (with added jumping around from us) and below is the Wifey show from Thursday.
The Manchester homie Can You Felix quietly posted up this wicked mini mix on his soundcloud. It’s predeominately soca which in our eyes is a wonderful thing. He breaks it up though with that nasty Tomb Crew and Wholesick Breathe refix. Perfect for a cheeky skank before the weekend.
If you are in manchester next friday make sure you reach!
