I saw this on the excellent Female Rappers Tumblr and had to click on it. I’m in a heavy Trick Daddy phase right now and anyone covering his and Trina’s classic Naan gets some love. I was pleasantly surprised to find a really good song and video BobbyEffect can rap her ass off. As with the current trend of rappers it’s brash (i really want to know the story of the business man that she is rapping to in the first verse). You can dl her mixtape here.

Every week the excellent So Shifty guys will bring you a performance that they deem #unf*ckwithable. You can give them suggestions on twitter just using that hashtag but ultimately they will decide. This week’s edition is from Oscar Winners and Hip Hop legends Three Six Mafia. Webbie joins them on this raunchy hit from 2009.

R Kelly may be going through his Sam Cooke phase at the moment (nothing wrong with that) but sometimes the Pied Piper of R and B can’t help himself but dabble in a bit of dancehall and reggae. One of our favourite warm up songs is him, Sean (pre Mohawk) Paul and Akon teaming up on Slow Wine (Are you from an Island Girl?). Anyway it’s fair to say that he has previous so we were excited to hear his new song Memories has a one drop tilt and Peter Tosh guitar lick to it. The song is fantastic and captures R Kelly’s genius song writing and melodies. this may be a song about lament but it will have you singing the chorus and the gun shots parts all day.
We are currently burning through every single episode of the Fresh Prince (more on that in the future), so Jazz is in our lives everyday. Although he does still continue to DJ he really is a great producer, see the Angie Stone LP. Here he teams up with singer rapper Ayah for something truly blissed out.
Not normally something that we would play at HDD but none the less i felt the video needed to be posted. I went to Vegas in January for a wedding and was immediately struck by how much of a fairytale the place is. These massive expensive gorgeous buildings built in the middle of the desert. It really doesn’t make any sense but none the less it is amazing. The Cosmopolitan Hotel is one of my favourite buildings in the whole world.
One thing that caught my eye was the horrendous dichotomy between these buildings and the small rather dowdy buildings across the road. It offered a glimpse of what Vegas is like for it’s actual citizens. The video only touches on it but it was something that i began to think about.
