Hipsters Dont Dance Bio

Through the steamed up windows at their monthly residency in the heart of East London you’ll just about be able to pick out Hipsters Dont Dance duo Kazabon and Hootie Who, or at least you will if you manage to ignore all the whinin’ and booty shakin’ in front of them. You could be mistaken for thinking every show they play is their residency with their unfaltering ability to move any dance floor like they’ve been playing to them for years.

After winning the iDJ Raw Talent competition in 2010 the pair have gone from strength to strength taking their world carnival sound to clubs across the globe. With features in Mixmag, London’s Metro and countless online sites as well as their club night regularly being picked by Time Out as the place to be. Their World Carnival mix series is a firm favourite among djs and clubbers alike across the globe and their refixes have been played by djs such as Jubilee, Dubbel Dutch, Fantasy Thrilla and Murlo. With features in Mixmag, London’s Metro and countless  online sites as well as their club night regularly being picked by Time Out as the place to be. They have guested on some of London’s top pirate radio stations from Nasty FM to Déjà vu FM and have played at some of London’s biggest venues from Red Bull Studios to Camden’s Roundhouse.

Metro 2011

Kazabon and Hootie Who started their monthly Hipsters Dont Dance club night back at the tail end of 2009 at the intimate 3 Blind Mice before moving to the ground floor of the City Arts & Music Projects in September 2010. After the unexpected closing of the City Arts & Music Project in 2012, Hipsters Dont Dance found a new home for their monthly parties at The Shacklewell Arms in Dalston.

The night is focused on showcasing the best musical talent from the UK and abroad – bringing guests that play and push a unique mixture of Hip Hop Tropical and Dancehall and who blend different musical styles to create something truly unique. Our residents include Murlo (Mixpak/ Pollinate Records), The Large (Shimmy Shimmy) and Illanja (A$$QUAKE) Past guests have included Warrior One (Black Butter Records), Smutlee (Mad Decent), legendary UK DJ and MC Serocee, Gabriel Heatwave(Rinse FM) , Whole Sick (Sounds of Sumo’s) and Deja Vu FM’s Joe Grime amongst others. International acts such as Bonjay, Jillionaire (Major Lazer), South Rakkas Crew (Mad Decent/Greensleeves), Dre Skull (Mixpak), So Shifty (Man Recordings) and Schlachthofbronx (Mad Decent) have helped HDD throw some of the best parties in London.

In 2011 the HDD club night was listed as one of Mixmag’s top dancehall nights in their feature on the rise of dancehall in clubland, and was also listed in London’s Time Out as one the best tropical nights in the city.
