Africa Online mix by Hipsters Don’t Dance by Kenemagirl on Mixcloud
We were honoured to be asked by Tamu of the excellent Kenema clothing brand to make a mixtape the reflected her new collection Africa Online. If you haven’t checked out the Kenema brand you must, excellent African inspired clothing made by someone that truly represents what it means to be an African.
So how did we try and capture the sound of the new emerging African talent? We hopped from country to country trying to keep it mainly new stuff. From the horns in Wizkid’s Jaiye Jaiye to SA and Angolan house we tried to capture it all. We even managed to fit in African diaspora with Moelogo’s Baddest (aka Uk’s biggest Afropop song at the moment).

Brackles Live at HDD April 5th 2014 by Hipsters Dont Dance on Mixcloud
In April we were joined by Rinse Fm’s Brackles for another amazing HDD session at The Shacklewell Arms. Brackles is known for his excellent musical taste and selection and recently he has been playing a lot of Afropop on his show. He rarely gets the opportunity to play this music in clubs and in this set he plays a healthy dose of it mixed with his signature garage and funky sounds. It sure got hot and sweaty in the Shacklewell dancehall! If you missed it you missed out!!!!! Remember our next party is this Saturday.

As you can tell from our other blends, sometimes R&B and dancehall just work so well together and the same goes for our new blend Style Up. Chante Moore’s sometimes slept on hit Straight Up gets a new lease of life on Pop Style Riddim. As always support the original artists Chante Moore and DJ Frass. Stream or download below.

We were incredibly proud to be asked by our favourite record label Mixpak to participate in their Mixpak FM mix series. We focused on doing a afrobeats/pop mix of stuff we have been enjoying for ages. It was really nice to actually focus on this and try and capture a tiny bit of what the carnival is like. Above is a video from 4 years ago, i think it was my 2nd of my 3 visits. Get the tracklist and download link here, or stream below.
