HDD Video Vault #7 808

Do you remember when you had to wait for MTV’s The Lick or Yo MTV Raps to see the best new videos? We do! Kazabon even had a VHS of the her favourite videos, from a time when Hype Williams was behind nearly every great video and when artists tried to out-do themselves and their peers with the hottest new video. We have decided to dig into the HDD video vault to bring you some of our favourites.

This week’s Video Vault selection is 808 by Blaque. After hearing the sad news that the group’s rapper Natina Reed passed away in a car accident earlier this week, we wanted to pay tribute by celebrating the group’s music. 808 was Blaque’s first single and featured their mentor Lisa Left Eye in the video, it sounds just as good today as when it was first released.

This week’s Video Vault selection is a summer one since we are digging out our favourite summer anthems for Sweat It Out this Saturday at Catch. We discovered this early Buju Banton tune a little while ago and we just love Buju’s moves especially his bogle. From his excellent yellow sports suit and his incredibly dance moves to the great variety of dancers and the subtitles. This video has it all.

HDD Video Vault #5 You Should Be Mine

Do you remember when you had to wait for MTV’s The Lick or Yo MTV Raps to see the best new videos? We do! Kazabon even had a VHS of the her favourite videos, from a time when Hype Williams was behind nearly every great video and when artists tried to out-do themselves and their peers with the hottest new video. We have decided to dig into the HDD video vault to bring you some of our favourites.

Today’s selection from the HDD Video Vault is Brian McKnight’s You Should be Mine. Before Brian McKnight became a viral sensation by asking us if we were ready to learn he was was busy being nominated for Grammys, playing eight instruments, and making tunes like this one featuring Mase. This tune was released in 1997 and you can definitely tell its a 90s video by Brian’s leather jacket and shades, the hip hop dancers in crop tops, and the video girls are actually fully clothed! We especially love Mase’s two step and the shots of Brian trying to get down with the dancers.

HDD Video Vault #4 Feel It Boy

Do you remember when you had to wait for MTV’s The Lick or Yo MTV Raps to see the best new videos? We do! Kazabon even had a VHS of the her favourite videos, from a time when Hype Williams was behind nearly every great video and when artists tried to out-do themselves and their peers with the hottest new video. We have decided to dig into the HDD video vault to bring you some of our favourites.

Today’s selection is Beenie Man’s Feel It Boy featuring Janet Jackson. The hit was written by Beenie and produced by The Neptunes and it charted pretty well after its release in the summer of 2002. The video shows Janet and Beenie having fun and interacting with different characters on a pretty packed beach. The video is shot so well you can almost feel the heat of the summer sun. Watch out for Bennie Man’s video girl, the girl balancing a stack of towels on her head, Beenie’s Jamaican ATV and Janet’s gravity-defying boobs.

HDD Video Vault #3 Laundromat

Do you remember when you had to wait for MTV’s The Lick or Yo MTV Raps to see the best new videos? We do! Kazabon even had a VHS of the her favourite videos, from a time when Hype Williams was behind nearly every great video and when artists tried to out-do themselves and their peers with the hottest new video. We have decided to dig into the HDD video vault to bring you some of our favourites.

Today’s selection from the HDD video vault is Nivea’s Laundromat. The video for the excellent R Kelly composition features Nick Cannon as Nivea’s cheating boyfriend (we really wish Kells was playing the role). Nivea catches him in the act and instead of giving him a piece of her mind she heads to the laundry-mat to wash that man out of her em…. draws – being Lil Wayne and The Dream’s baby mama we are pretty sure she has had a few trips to the laundromat!
Cue laundromat dance routine with ‘tired‘ washing detergent, trolleys and suds with Nivea rocking a strange heels and sponge bob knee high socks combo.
