HDD Top 5 x Danny Brown

After the release of Bluberry this week we thought it would be a good time to do a Danny Brown Top 5. We have an immense love for the Detroit Mc ever since we read this amazing 2 part interview with music journalist Noz. In it he mentions that he was almost signed to G Unit, his dad was a house dj and that one of his favourite Mc’s is Dizzee Rascal. All that and his infectious unique voice meant that he was someone that we would love to listen to. Then we heard the tunes, his vivid imagery and unique sense of humour make him and amazing Mc. Whatever they end up calling this latest generation of hip hop they need to document Danny’s great contribution to it.

Danny Brown – Guitar Solo

There is something to be said about having great visuals in this decade and Danny Brown has plenty. The video for this story telling song is great, please look out for the guitar playing guy in the hospital. The song itself garnered props from Q-Tip online as well. This is the go to song that I play people when I tell them to listen to Danny Brown.

Danny Brown – Radio Song

Taken from his latest album XXX, this song sees Danny Brown snapping on the state of Hip Hop at the moment. To be fair it’s mainly directed at the sad state of the dinosaur A and R’s around at the moment. This is a perfect time to mention his label Fools Gold which is leading the way in this new generation of smaller lifestyle labels. They have given Danny the support a label should whilst allowing him to be an artist and to work with whomever.

Danny Brown – Greatest Rapper Ever

What can I say about this song? It’s amazing, Danny rapping about Detroit with the passion you rarely see from rappers in this day and age. The guy cutting the copper pipes in the background is a much more striking imagery about hustling than anything in hip hop can come up with.

Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire ft. Despot, Das Racist, Danny Brown, EL-P – Huzzah (Remix)

This posse cut is amazing, all of these rapper really shine on this El-P scuzzed out beat. This Mishka sponsored video utilises simplicity to craft a great visual for all 6 rappers. I can’t say who kills it because each of them are stellar verses and the chorus is something you can’t help to sing 2 hours after you heard the song. Plus Killer Mike is in the background just chilling.

Kid Sister – Gucci Rag Top Remix (Feat. Danny Brown)

This video is great, taking the Tumblr theme we are all familiar with to create a backdrop for chicago’s Kid sister to rap in front off. This Scoop Deville production is just another style which Danny obliterates. Gucci Rag Top that’s how we roll.
