Last year when Ludacris announced the release of his battle of the sexes concept i was happy because although hip hop is entering it’s 3rd decade there hasn’t really been a decent exploration between gender roles. Then Shawna jumped off the project and instead we got a half baked lp without a coherent voice, even the lead single was a showcase for Nicki Minaj.
In this Bo Deal, a Brick Squad (yes Waka and Gucci Mane’s Brick Squad) member, song he and Mello G Blanca (whom i like a lot) explore the pressure of trying to trap down a boss b*itch. Not only is it a fun twist of the hood baby mama trap story but it also bangs. The production is on point , the chorus is catchy enough to work in clubs and both of their verses are stellar.
In the past month we have seen a split in hip hop in regards to whether showing emotion is hip hop or soft? Then we get a great role reversal song like this… i see hip hop is still that innovative field that many people don’t think it is.
